DaVinci filmfest awards Iranian ‘Malakout’

Iran short ‘Malakout’ wins award at the DaVinci Int’l filmfest in the US.

Iranian short animation ‘Malakout’ (Divinity) has won an award at the DaVinci International Film Festival (DIFF) in the US.

Directed by Farnoush Abedi, the acclaimed short has succeeded to win a Vitruvian award.

The winners of this award will compete for a Leo prize at the event’s annual live showcase.

The Iranian short title is about a pianist who makes a deal with the angel of death.

When the angel comes to reap the life of the pianist’s wife, the man accepts to give his hands to save her life.

A tagline for ‘Malakout’ reads “music was his passion. Love was his masterpiece.”

The 11-minute film has competed at a number of film events and won some awards, including the Special Mention Short award at the Silk Road International Film Festival in Ireland and the Best Animation award at the Black Country Horror Shorts Film Festival in the UK.

According to the official website of the event, the DIFF is “set out to honor the best in independent cinema from around the world, and do so by taking into account the full-scope of creative integration in any given project”.

The winners of the third edition of the event have been announced earlier, though the physical ceremony will be held on September 10-13, 2020.
